Dear SMART Winter School participants,
We have recently received a few emails with the questions regarding SMART Winter School Covid-19 procurations. This page will give you most up-to-date advise about epidemiological situation in the UK and in Cambridge as well as what one needs to bring to the SMART Winter School when attending in person.
MOST RECENT UPDATE ON COVID TRAVEL POLICIES FROM UK GOVERNMENT
What you must do if you arrive in England after 4am 30 November 2021
If you are fully vaccinated and arrive in England after 4am Tuesday 30 November, you:
- must self-isolate
- take a PCR test before the end of day 2 after you arrive (lateral flow tests will not be accepted)
- can leave self-isolation if your PCR test result is negative
Before travelling to the UK
Fully vaccinated passengers travelling to the UK no longer have to take a Covid test before setting off. This applies to people vaccinated in the UK, the EU, the US and dozens of other recognised countries – including Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Turkey.
You must be able to prove you are fully vaccinated before travelling.
Please also read carefully the government advise via the link below:
Fully vaccinated people travelling to the UK need to take a lateral flow test two days after arrival. They should order and pay for a test kit privately before they arrive – NHS kits cannot be used. If they have ordered a home testing kit, they will usually have to send a picture to verify the result.
All travelers coming to the UK must also fill in a passenger locator form – even if they are just passing through – which they need to fill in 48 hours or less before their journey. For those who will be staying in Jesus College will need to order their lateral flow tests to Jesus College address. When arrived they should be collected from the Porter Lodge. Also, Jesus College address should provided in a passenger locator form.
Jesus College address: Jesus Ln, Cambridge CB5 8BL
Please note, those who booked their accommodation independently will need to provide an address of a hotel/friends house they will be staying in. Jesus College won’t be able to receive your lateral flow test kits as well as would not be able to provide any information to the UK medical authorities should you require to isolate.
What if I’m unvaccinated?
If you aren’t fully vaccinated – and you’re over 18 – you must self-isolate at home for 10 days after arrival in the UK.
You also need to:
- take a PCR or lateral flow/antigen test (not a free NHS test) in the three days before you travel to the UK
- take a test on or before day two and on or after day eight after your return.
Test to Release will remain an option for unvaccinated passengers to England who want to shorten their quarantine.
Department of Engineering Covid Rules:
All Winter School teaching activities will be happening at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge. In order to provide safe and productive time for its staff, students and visitors, the Department of Engineering operates with the reduced room capacity policy hence the limited number of places for in-person attendance.
The use of face coverings is strongly recommended in all internal multi occupancy buildings; they can be removed, but with an ongoing consideration for others who may prefer to use them; this includes if you meet with others in close proximity, and/or in smaller rooms, where it would be courteous to ask if others are comfortable for you not to wear a face covering. In addition, you should consider continuing to wear face coverings if:
- Other mitigating factors such as a degree of social distancing (high density areas/crowds) or adequate ventilation is compromised.
- When moving around buildings/rooms in multiple occupation.
- Where your own risk assessment identifies you should wear appropriate PPE (providing additional personal protection to you as well as to others).
- Where notices are displayed to encourage continued use of face coverings.
We will be providing all SMART Winter School attendees with washable cotton masks that have been kindly offered us by the the Department of Engineering. However, we suggest all attending in person should bring their own masks.
A degree of social distancing will need to be considered in all workplace settings including rest/social areas with notices displayed to encourage continued commitment to social distancing.
Enhanced handwashing/sanitisation is still strongly recommended, with supplies of hand sanitiser placed next to entrances/exits and in communal areas and notices displayed to encourage continued hand hygiene.
Jesus College Covid Policies
Jesus College Hospitality team who will be providing and managing Winter School attendees accommodation and food is taking event safety very seriously. Since the college was open to external visitors, it introduced robust measures of accommodation cleaning and sanitation. Further information can be found in a leaflets provided to us by the college:
